Last Friday, Governor Branstad signed Senate File 2323, which makes SBAC the new state test beginning July 1, 2017. He let stand the amendment that pushed the starting date back a year and vetoed the amendment that sent it back to the Rules Committee. In his veto letter, he explains that it is time for the state to move forward with the new assessment and begin to prepare for it.

MISIC has been preparing for the move to SBAC for the past two years. We have been creating our “treasure chest” of resources to help your district begin work now to prepare for the test. On November 15, we will offer a one-day workshop on “Preparing for the Iowa SBAC” at the Hilton Garden Inn in Johnston. Registration information will be coming out in early August and we expect the workshop to fill up quickly.
