2016 Best Practices in Social Studies Institute – Registration is now open!

Please see the invitation below for an opportunity being offered for Social Studies teachers this summer. This was shared with us by Stefanie Wager, the social studies consultant with the Dept of Ed. Thanks!

Social studies colleagues,

Registration is now open for the 2016 Best Practices in Social Studies Institute. Go here to register. Registration will close May 10th.

The institute will take place June 20-21 at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines. It is open to any K-12 social studies teacher and entirely FREE to attend. License renewal credit will be also be available.

I am still working on finalizing some sessions, but it looks to be another exciting institute. Time will be devoted to discuss the process for writing the draft of new social studies standards. Elementary teachers will have the opportunity to attend our statewide elementary social studies professional development. In addition, there will be sessions targeted towards history content, a Supreme Court update, psychology, technology, and much more. You can see the draft of our at-a-glance schedule here. You can also check out a flyer about the institute here.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
